What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? Missouri

I have been called by a collection company at all hours day and night week and weekends. This one time I was finally able to answer the phone. First it stated a company on my caller ID then when I was sent over to a hold and wait it was another company. They gave me a payoff amount. When I stated I did not have that kind of money but could pay it out they were mad. Threatened me. I said thank you but I see we can't work out a deal and hung up. This person called back on another number and called me a "f---- b----" and pay your bills than hung up. Whom do I contact in MO to report this company?

A quick fix

Well there are laws for this nation wide. Been goin through the same thing. I got it stopped. All collections places are betting you do not know nothing. I would call the your county DA office. If they can not help they can give you a phone number. Of course if you did not record this you have no proof and they are betting on this to. These tatics they use work on worried people and they just hoping that you go get a loan and pay them off, but of course if you have been reported to collections your in the same boat as I can not get a loan . So what you need to do is get them to stop. I would think about finding someway to record them being as they are swearing at you. Or call their bluff and tell them you are. Anyhow call you county Da office they for sure can help either with a phone number or some info. Sooner or later they will come around they always do. Hope I helped Charlie

Right now it is your word against theirs. No law enforcement official is going to get involved.

Go down to Radio Shack and buy a tape recorder. Get the kind that connects into your telephone between the handset and the body of the phone.

Everytime they call, hit the record switch. Don't tell them you are taping.

Ideally, you will have more than one of these on tape. Then you have leverage to get your debt forgiven. That is your goal.

The county DA has NOTHING to do with debt collectors, so don't waste your time. That kind of verbal abuse IS ILLEGAL per the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), so you need to read the Act and get REAL familiar with what it says collectors can and can NOT do.

You can find the Act here:
http://www.ftc.gov/os/statutes/fdcpa/fdcpact.htm

Section 806 deals with Harrassment and Abuse and that dirtbag violated the law.
