Louisiana... Over 40 female
I have worked several years for a company, all my reviews are great.Recently my boss was giving hints at a possible promotion, he said I was the most qualified!, yet it was given to a young man 1/2 my age. In the time I have been there, young men have always been promoted. My boss (male) asked me if I feel like he sh--t on me?, I said yes, he thought that was cute. He said he didn't think I would want to be away from my family, since I have kids. During the years I have worked there, I have done everything, paperwork, train others, etc.
Never missed a day of work. The company has no women in upper positions, in their other places of work.
I have never dealt with suits, whom do I contact ACLU, EEOC, Lawyer?. I have never done this, I am lost. The prior was whom others told me to contact. I haven't due to I really don't know what to do first. Please give me some advice!

sounds like gender discrimination because you are female. You should bring up your issue with HR and keep records. Contact eeoc or your state's equivalent. Be warned of reactions from your company. again, keep records.

eeoc will offer their findings. if they agree with you, they may assist you. if not, they will offer right to sue letter. you have 90 days to take action, otherwise forfeit rights to pursue matter.

Oh really? Then point to one FACT in this post where Gender Bias is proven.

It is not remotely clear that there is a definite case of sex, or gender discrimination.

However, if you believe that to be the case, jkim has put you on the right track. The FIRST step is to make an internal complaint to upper management or HR. You need to give the company a chance to correct the problem internally. That does NOT, btw, mean that the company is automatically required to fire the new employee and promote you into his place.

The next step after that is to file a complaint with the EEOC or the state civil rights commission, or both.

ONLY after you have a right to sue letter from one or the other (and that will not come quickly - count on 18 months to two years) can you file a lawsuit.
