My elderly father in law lives with us, and we have power of attorney over his affairs. There are out of state family members and others who do not like the arrangement for various reasons (mostly having to do with money and property) and every now and again one of them calls Protective Services with complaints that are so entirely bogus as to be laughable, so that we are continuously being investigated. Also, some people in this area are hip to how Protective Services works, and it is quite common for Protective Services to be called with bogus complaints just for harassment purposes (like if someone is mad at you for some reason). This too has happened to us more than once. An example would be when we called the police on some people who we knew had robbed the neighbors house, so to get even, the robber's wife called Human Services on us and made up some story about how we make dad "eat off the floor". At any rate, we have been under investigation over and over again over the last 4 years, having been accused of all manner of terrible things, and having to deal with the poor attitudes of the case workers who behave as if we MUST be guilty of SOMETHING, as well as the police they tend to bring with them, who behave in the same way. They have never found anything wrong at any of their visits, nor will they in the future, but they none-the-less have become increasingly rude. How many times must the protective services investigate bogus allegations before something can be done about it? And WHAT can be done about it? It is getting really old.
