What is the name of your state? Arkansas

Hi, we have been careless with our credit in the past but in the past yr we have been working really hard on getting our credit back on track. We applied for a personal loan and were told to get a past cc debt taken off our report and come back. One is a cc from First Consumers National bank which shows a last payment date on my credit report as 7/200 it was turned over to Midland credit 7/2001. To our understanding the debt is past SOL for Arkansas its 3 yrs. We sent a certified letter with return reciept to Midland stating that the debt was past SOL and to ceast and desist. Did we do the right thing? On a site I found it said to do that then to send a letter to the CRA disputing the report does anyone know if this should work in getting it taken off our credit report?
Thank you so much in advance for your advice

A cease and desist is not going to get this off of your credit reports. All that will do is prevent the collection agency from calling or sending letters (if full cease and desist).

Send a dispute letter to all of the credit bureaus disputing the account as "not mine." That may get rid of it.

Also go read at creditboards.com. Start with the Newbie's Section.
