Purchased a home in Nebraska 3 years ago. There have been 2 mild winters and now this winter we have some very cold temperatures that have enabled the snow to remain on the roof. In the last week there have been warmer temps that have allowed the snow to slowly melt. The roof leaks - all over. The usual inspections were done at the time of purchase but this problem would only show inside the home and there was new paint throughout covering any defect. We believe the seller was aware there was a problem because of the way the ceiling was painted. The staining from moisture is coming through locations which are the most freshly painted surfaces. Do we have recourse at this late date?

You would only have recourse if you can prove that the roof leaked and that the Seller knew and did not disclose that fact to you. Call some licensed roofing contractors to check the roof and give you an opinion as to whether 3 years ago the roof could have leaked based on the condition when you bought the home.
