What is the name of your state? California

I have been working for a company as a temp. They were talking about hiring me on permanent, until they found out I am pregnant. I have worked over and beyond what they have asked me to do. I have come in on my day off just to do the banking for them. I have had no problem working overtime or staying when they needed me to finish a task. Now that my contract is coming up with the temp agency that I was hired through what can i do if they decide not to hire me? I caught my supervisor yesterday on the phone with a friend saying that I was a hard worker and benificial to the company but my only downside is that I am pregnant and that is why they plan on not hiring me. What can I do about this? Is this discrimination?? What kind of Lawyer handles these types of cases?

Thank you!

Is this discrimination?? Very likely. If they would fail to hire ANY temp/job candidate who would be in need of 6+ weeks of leave time shortly after starting they might be able to skate through this but the statement the supervisor made is damning.

What kind of Lawyer handles these types of cases? An attorney who specializes in employment law.

They fired me

They terminated me. Out of the entire time that I worked for that company I missed 1 day. The supervisor that I overheard has told the other employees that there was not enough work to require two desks, she told the temp agency that it was because I made an error, and I know it is because my contract came up and I am pregnant ( I heard her say it). How can I prove this in court? I know that it is going to come down what I heard and what she says. Should I seek legal counsel or should I let this blow over? All of my co-workers know what really is going on, can I get them involved, without them getting in trouble? Will any of this have to do with my character and work habits? I have copies of all of my time sheets proving that I was working 52 hours (wkly) to make up for the other girl working the desk not doing her fair share and she is still there. What can I do and how do I find an employment lawyer? Should I just go to EEO?
Please Advise, Thank you!

Are you saying that you were working there under a contract for a specific period of time and the contract expired?

There was no specific time alloted on the contract- after you work 500 hours the company is given the option to hire you at no extra cost. But there is no specific time that the contract is up. Sorry if I wasn't specific.

In that case, yes, I'd go to the EEOC.

You can certainly go looking for a lawyer, but you will need a right to sue letter from the EEOC or your state discrimination board before you can file a lawsuit, so that gives you some time to find one.
