I run a small business and two of my employees quit last month. One of the guys quit amicably, he quit because he got a better position elsewhere. The other guy quit amid chaos. His inefficiency was bringing us losses and his attitude was becoming unbearable. He messed up a customer's item and blamed the customer and my partner. We ended up refunding the customer and questioned him about what happened and that didn't go well. He used foul words, texted the same to me and quit over the phone, without giving us any notice. I texted him back saying his services were no longer required and asked him to clear his desk and leaves the keys there.

I had paid his salary in full till the last day he worked, and I have proof of direct deposits.

That very night a review was posted on Google with a racist overtone, under a fake customer name. I didn't respond but chose to ignore it, and reported it to Google. A couple of days ago, another negative review appeared on Yelp, from a new account that bears striking similarity with my company's name.

Yesterday he barged into my office, when I wasn't there and tried to claim some stuffs as his, and threatened my new employees. I don't want to escalate this further. Should I involve police in this? Or should I seek legal help?

I suggest you start by reporting the incident to the police and getting it on record. Then seek a restraining order from the court so the next time he comes in you can have him arrested.

As for legal help, couldn't hurt to talk to a defamation attorney but to go after a low life like that will probably cost you in attorney fees more than it's worth.

If he posted on sites that allow rebutals I suggest you post your side of the story. Just be careful what you say. A simple note that it's the rant of a disgruntled ex-employee should be enough without getting into details.
