Disturbing Craigslist Ad

I was recently browsing the craigslist personals and I came across a disturbing ad. In the ad written by a man he wrote:

"I enjoy doing wife when she is drunk and passed out. Not sure if I am wierd and wanted to know if others do."

Should I report to the police I saw this ad? If so, if they track him down can he get in legal trouble for writing this? Is it illegal to post things like the above online? Can the police do anything?

You could contact Craigslist and report the ad and/or you could show the ad to the police but it is not illegal to write what the ad-creator wrote.

It could violate a law to actually do what the ad-creator says he does. A lot depends on whether the wife knows what her husband does when she is drunk and passed out and she has no problem with it.

In addition, just because someone writes something online does not make it true. Whether true or false, though, it certainly can make one question the intelligence of the person making such statements.

I'm in NYC. I messaged him about it and he said how she knows he does and it's a part of their marriage. He said he has talked to her about it and she understands. But he also said earlier in our correspondence in response to a question of mine that he doesn't know if she knows what he does.

You can do what you want to with what you know (or don't know) about the Craigslist poster.

If you are concerned and this really bothers you, report the ad to Craigslist and they might decide to pull it. Or you can show the ad to the police. I have a feeling that there is little the police can or will do but it is hard to tell.

If, as the guy said to you (at least once), his wife is aware of what he does and has no objection to it, no crime has been committed.

I almost asked the same thing ... for the same reason.

It can be important to note that different states have different definitions of "consensual" and "nonconsensual." States also vary in what they define as a crime when the sexual acts involve spouses.

I think someone could probably spend their whole life being disturbed by the various and assorted things appearing on Craigslist.

I also believe that Craigslist listings are monitored by law enforcement.

Responding to questionable ads on Craigslist is not really a recommended course of action. It is far better instead to report what you find as objectionable to Craigslist or, if it is really disturbing, to the police.

The laws on "spousal rape" differ from state to state. Depending on where the charming fellow lives and what his wife has consented to before getting drunk and passing out, there may be no crime committed. This is assuming the guy is actually doing what he says he likes to do, which could be a big assumption. The guy might not have a wife; he might be a teenager; he might be an undercover officer; he might not be a "he" at all ...

Although you should never blindly take as the truth what someone on the internet says, if you run across something you think might cross a legal line, it doesn't hurt to report it.

well, if your quest in life is to monitor Craigslist and investigate the weird crap, all I can say is:

it will keep you busy for the rest of your life, or the life of Craigslist. There is a lot of weird stuff on Craigslist.

There is a lot of weird stuff on the internet period. Craigslist just seems to attract some of the weirder of the weird stuff.
