Divorce... Wife left over a year ago

What is the name of your state?
Florida

I got some questions, hope you guys can help me on this..

ME and my wife got married over a year ago (dont ask why, i still asking my self the same question)

We do love each other, not to be married tho...
marriage was a mistake, never lived together, never had sex with eachother... i guess she just wanted to be MARRIED, and i accepted.

As far as i know, she is dating.. which i dont mind, but i do need a divorce so we can go different ways.. legally.

Wife has been long for over a year now, she is somewhere in Illinois, i live in Florida now... i've tried to contact my wife, but it seems imposible, i just want to get a divorce, im not asking for anything, there is no kids involved.

What do i do?
How long does it take?
Do i need to find my wife first?

Any ideas?

WHAT????

Of course i have!!!

But i want to go with some information BEFORE seeing the lawyer..

is there anything wrong with that??

i need to know whats the best way to file for divorce, read about it, get all the documents i need and then, visit the lawyer

I know a lawyer is the best way to go, but im not going to the lawyers office and sit there until they can tell me all the details involved, i dont want to waste their time, nor mine

If i can get an idea of what is the best way to file, i could just go to the laywer, and tell him/her what i need... thats it, simple of the lawyer, simple for me

And... with all due respect
Why do you post messages like that?
"have you ever thought on visiting a lawyer"

Inst this a forum so we can get help to some questions, what is the use of the forum then?

We all know we need a lawyer, we are here just to get information, its allways better to know what you are talking about when you visit a profesional... ;)

Im not a lawyer, Im only responding because it sounds like you really need to hear SOMETHING!

My only experience is from getting a divorce in the past ... I went to see a lawyer, he told me he could help me, he said "that will be $600 please" and I paid him and was divorced 70 days later. If he had said "that will be $3000 please" I would have thanked him and found another lawyer!

Find someone that has gotten a clean divorce recently, ask them who they used. I know someone that got a divorce for $250 ...

All this assuming your fear of contacting a lawyer is getting charged a large fee with some un-knowns still present.

I think you can file and if the other person doesnt contest it after a waiting period, it goes through ..... but, that is what you need to confirm with a lawyer.... hope this helps some ....

thanks

Thank you, very much!

Yeah, i asked a couple lawyers about the cost, the average cost is 850. I also notice a add in the local news paper saying "divorce technitian" whatever that means, they charge 150, plus all the court charges... (im not sure if a "divorce tech" would be just someone filling up the forms for you or what)

So, im wondering how would i know if my wife has already a divorce from me? would the lawyer let me know if im already divorced... (since we have been separated for a LONG time, there might be a change of it)

Anyway, i will try to find a better quote... if nothing else, i will file by the mids of next month.

Thanks for your post,

If you think she may have already taken action, as I said, Im no expert, but if it was me I would start a search to see if there were records on file somewhere with your name on them concerning divorce preceedings. A question here in the appropriate forum may get you started in the right direction.

So..

How would i find out?

Is the someone (besides my wife, hehe) i can call to see if she has filed for divorce?

what about the "birth, marriage and divorce records" offered on the internet..? would they have a record if my wife filed already..?

Advice would be apreciated, thanks

Yes, I am running as blind as you are on this ... but my assumption is that if someone has filed anything on you, for you or against you anywhere in the country, I would think there would be a way to find it. I was hoping others that may know how to go about this would chime in on this thread and provide information on where to start looking.

This would certainly be something you could do instead of a lawyer charging you to do it.... because it sounds like it may be something that has to be determined before you take any action.
