I'm From New Jersey****
I just had a consultation with a divorce attorney IN NEW JERSEY and was looking to verify some of his advice to me. My wife asked me to leave the house, which I did, so my kids would not be subject to screaming and fighting, headed to my parents and I just sleep there 3-4 days a week. The rest of the time I sleep at my marital home. I was told to get back into my marital house, this would only put me in a better position. Is this correct?

I also asked the question, being the only sole supporter, making around 100k with 2 kids and a wife that does not work, what percentage of my pay, should I expect to provide to her? This would include alimony and child support. I offered her 50 % my pay and my lawyer said 33%-40% is the norm, in his experience. What do you think?

Question number 3: To meet my wifes demands and provide her with a settlement she can live with will mean I have less. I want to get my own place and I may have to share a condo or house with someone I know of 30 years. Can the law prevent me for having my 2 kids stay with me when I'm sharing my residence?

Take 10% of your gross income a year (100K) divide by 12(months) that should give you child support a month for each child or should come pretty close to an estimate--there's also a chart on a site someplace on the net that gives you exact figure--can't remember where I saw it--Now don't forget alimony because she will be entitled to that for a length of time as long as you've been married for at least 10 years--And depending on the age of the children she should get the house and you'll get the payments so the kids don't have to suffer--that's the important thing--and by all means please Larry make sure you take care of kids college education or at least half the cost--It's not fair to make the children suffer--Once you're divorced you can have anyone you want for a roomate that should not interfere with you seeing your children--Just remember the children are of paramount importance-you're having differences with your soon to be X not the kids--so keep them out of it and try to be civil to each other--the kids will get through it better if you do--The last thing you want to have to do is to start shelling out $$$ for therapy for the kids.
