I am from California, I did a program a year ago as one of the requirements for me to graduate in my bachelor's degree, is there a need for me to hire a patent lawyer to apply for it? Thanks.

No, not at all BUT unless you understand the process, a lawyer that works in the patent field is a good idea. The fact you asked the question you did suggests it would be a good idea to hire a lawyer. How a patent is written can mean a lot in regards to what it covers.

Caitlin123, your posting history on this forum is (was, at least) interesting.

Hiring a patent attorney is a wise step, after you actually have something that is patentable and worth the time and expense of pursuing.
