Does Father need to sign a Declaration of Paternity form?

I'm currently pregnant with our first son. My boyfriend and I aren't married but we plan to be within the next couple years.

My question is, due to my boyfriend and I not being married, would he have to sign a "Declaration of Paternity" form and have it documented in the courts in order for him to have rights to our child once our child is born?

And, if we do need to have that form signed, will our future marriage in any way interfere with the validation of the form?

We're trying to legally make sure we both have equal rights to our child should anything happen. Is this the best way to go about this or am I on the wrong track? Please let me know as we want to be best prepared should anything to either of us happen.

If custody is awarded to my parents how will my mother's divorce to my father, which she is still single, and my father remarrying effect whom will gain custody of my son?

He could file a paternity action and a DNA test would prove or disprove him as the father then the court would make their orders.

paternity form

in order to be on the birth certificate he would have to sign the acknowledgement of paternity in the hospital.and since your not married to make him the legal father and have equal rights he would need a dna test.and no a dna test does not have to be done before the form is signed.

We filled that out the same time as the birth certificate, it is easy and fast...just so you know. He doesn't need DNA, you sign it and that is pretty much how it's 'proven' that he's the daddy.
