What is the name of your state? NJ

My daughter moved with me over a year ago ( February 2004) and turned 18 in July of 2004, yet her grandmother is still trying to collect child support. I contacted child support and they told me that I had to file to terminate child support through emancipation as her grandmother is also trying to claim that she should be returned to her, she'll be 19 in July and it has just gotten rediculous. My question now is after looking over the papers to file a motion it appears I should look for an attorney, I want to do this right...my daughter is employed full time, has her own health insurance through her job and although she lives with me she handles her own bills. If anyone has any advice or if any attorneys would like to help in this case please let me know ASAP...my daughter and I just want this finished for once and for all. Thank you for any help.

...Also, is it possible to have the child support stopped retroactive back to the time she moved with me, I would hate to have to pay child support to someone who didn't support her.

You cannot modify it retroactively and you need to read the court order. NJ CS can go on for a very long time, you need to emancipate or, in the very least, change custody. Until you do, you will owe.
