I'm a new employee for a very small business doing carpentry. I was told I'd be started at $9/hr. He does not pay OT, which by law he has to, but that isn't the main question. He asked if I would be willing to take $2 under the table and him just pay me $7 on the books to keep the money he has to match a little lower. I agreed, but when he handed me my check it was at $8/hr and he said that he would just pay me extra hours until it evened out to $9/hr. This makes no sense to me at all. Why not just pay the $9/hr, what difference would it make on how much he would have to pay in? thanks
