From OH, daughter needs braces and ex refuses to pay is percent. Judge has already informed him he has to pay, still he refuses. What do I do? What will happen if we go to court and he STILL won't pay?

My response:

The penalties for contempt of court range from hefty fines, to jail time, to death by lethal injection (only in Georgia).

IAAL: I have to take my ex-husband to court for medical/dental expenses. The judge finds him contempt, orders a judgment, and never does anything else. My ex would rather go to court so he can sing his sob story for all to hear. Will they enforce anything after multiple violations?

My response:

It's difficult, if not impossible, to predict what any particular judge will do in such situations. Family court judges have great amounts of discretion in enforcing contempt of court orders. Some judges are "hanging" judges, and will enforce contempt, no matter what the excuse, on the first or second violation. Still others are big Teddy Bears, and will wait for the third, fourth or fifth contempt violation.
