I am involved in the currilum practical training program as a COOP, I have been in this program since fall 98, and I got approval from the international student advisor. The COOP program requires you to be in it for a year or more, so the next year summer 99 I was back again in the program but this time I did not go to the international advisor to sign out, I did the same for spring 2000. Last week I got a letter from the Career service which is incharge of the COOP progam stating that I have been dropped since I did not get approval from the International student advisor for the two semsters, so I went to the international student advisor to find out what the problem was.
They told me that I was out of status since I did not consult with them for those two semsters, I explained to them that it was a mistake on my part for not remembering to do so, but it fell on deaf ears, and there suggestion was for me to reinstate by filing to the INS.
I do not want to follow that path since I have to produce finacial proof of $20,000 to get a new I-20 from them as the international advisor told me. My question is what's the best way to go about this since I also had a work permit card from Jan 99 - Jan 00 but I never used it since I was in my CPT program?
I had also changed my major on my first year and never informed the International office, later on I realized that this was a mistake and I decided to inform them about the change of majors, they told me that it was okay and forget about filing to the INS for change of majors, would I not then been considered to be out of status from my first year?
