What is the name of your state?hi ok
so i am in an assue which is a type of savings you put in money for a period of time (20) weeks and every week someone gets a draw. now the assue has a holder the person who started it. this person is responsible for collecting all monies and disbursting funds accordingly. so myself and my two daughters are in the assue we had two dates to collect 24 aug and 31 aug. the week before the first hand i reached out to the holder to verify that everything was going good and we would get our funds, she said yes.
now the week of the first hand she turns her phone off dosent answer calls or text and basically disappears for a few days. a week later which is now the second hand she sends a text saying she will meet my daughter at a certain time to give her the funds that she has collected so far. she never showed up. this made me angry so i turned to facebook and sent a post with her picture saying " this is my assue woman she out here living her best life and cant pay me my money anyone else in her assue be aware". so she goes to court and is suing me for $5000 defimation of charector. My question is how can she sue me if she does owe me two hands valued at $900 each and havent given me a dollar yet. the info is a true statement?

Personally I'd be researching if this type of nvestment scheme is even legal in OK.

But even Jack the Ripper would be entitled to sue if something nasty was posted about him on Facebook ...even if true ....so you best get a defense lawyer on this defamation suit, you are going to need him or her.

Just for the record.

assue - Caribbean Dictionary. assue. 1. Noun. A form of savings where a group of people pay an agreed sum of money on a periodic basis (usually monthly) and each period one member of the group takes all the money that has been paid (their share).

I have to ask. Why don't you save your what you put in in a bank, credit union or cookie jar? The financial outcome would be the same without worrying about other people

Defamation in the US is a false statement published to another or others about a person (or entity) that causes harm to that person or entity's reputation.

"Truth" is a defense to a defamation lawsuit but it does not necessarily prevent someone from taking offense at what has been spoken or written about them and suing over the harm that was caused by the publication.

The defamation laws in the Bahamas are significantly different than the laws on defamation in any of the states in the US (all of which have their own defamation laws).

You should seek legal assistance in your area.

Here is a link to the International Press Institute with information on the defamation laws in the Bahamas: http://legaldb.freemedia.at/legal-database/bahamas/

Good luck.

In the Bahamas, defamation is still a criminal offense so communicating false statements comes with more than just the risk of losing money. Jail time is also possible.

The greatest defense to Defamation of Character, is the truth. If what you posted is true and prove it, her suit means nothing.
