I don't see anywhere that the town decided that the regulation of boarding houses violates any sort of "fair housing" laws.

We have defined this scenario as a boarding house...but I suspect there are also local ordinances that actually define what a boarding house is. Having two roommates, all living together as one household (which appears to be the case here) may not meet the local definition of a boarding house.

Then...there is the whole "unrelated party" issue. How is "unrelated party" defined in the local ordinances? If a man lets his girlfriend and her three children move in to his home does that count as 4 unrelated parties or one? What if a woman lets her best friend and her three children move in because the best friend is getting a divorce? How many unrelated parties is that?

I am not trying to be disagreeable...I just think that there may be more nuances to this particular situation than we are acknowledging.

OP is renting out two spare rooms. Granted, without knowing the town/county, then we cannot know the precise local definition of "boarding house," but that doesn't change what the OP is doing. OP WILL need to get permits from the local municipality if they require them.

Hey I'm trying to let this rest also. If you go back to my post of 12 am today it describes the definition of a family. Because I live in this house I do not need permit. Now when I rent out the properties and do not live in them yes I will need a permit. Even if I do need a permit now. Big deal. I'll get a warning before anything serious and chance to correct my mistakes. It is not considered boarding house with 5 or less people

And "if they require them" backs up what I am saying. We actually do not know what is required...but we are replying as if we do. Again, I am not trying to be disagreeable...I just think that we have been a little too adamant here.

They just don't like me and what I'm doing and ignore the info I provide. I'm accused ofdevaluing property values. I think the banks do a better job of destroying prop values then little ole me.
