What is the name of your state? Illinois
During heavy snow fall, store employees put down cardboard and maybe rugs from doorway to the counter because the floor was wet. I slipped or my feet got tangled up and I went down. An ambulance took me to a hospital with a broken left arm (my dominant) broken right knee and other injuries. I had one operation so far, this is my second week in the hospital and I just started rehabilitation.
I provided the hospital my own insurance which I get from work. I overheard that the hospital will send me home at the end of this week. I have no one to take care of me, my arm is in a cast and my leg sticks straigh out, and I live in a split level.
I would think that someone from the convenience store would get in touch with me, so far no one did.
I'm alone and at a loss as to what to do? Everyone tells me to get an attorney, I don't even know how to get one and I certainly can't pay because who knows when I'll be able to go to work.
I'll thankful for any advice.

Look in your "local Yellow pages" for a personal injury attorney!! :)

A personal injury attorney should be willing to come to the hospital and meet with you (the OP).

The hospital has the duty to provide safe discharge. If you can not get in your home, take care of yourself, and have no one to take care of you, chances are that your discharge is not being planned with sending you to your actual residence but to a short term rehab facility. Make sure you (the OP) are not sent home if you can not be safely discharged to home.

Best wishes,
EC

Thank you for the responses.
ellencee, what is an OP?
How do I "make sure" not to be discharged prematurly? there are so many people here with differing opinions, is it up to one of the social workers, my P/T or my doctor, and which is "my doctor", the one who operated, the one who admitted, the resident, I do not have a pri**** doctor here or before the fall.
I did get in touch with a lawyer, he wasn't willing to come and meet me in the hospital, he wants to find witnesses before he commits, does this sound right?
Sincerely,
I. M.

As for your discharge speak with an RN assigned to your care. Ask to meet with the resource manager, or case manager, or discharge planner; I don't know what title the hospital uses for this job description. If the MD or an RN tells you that the MD has discharged you and you have not made arrangements for someone/someplace to provide assistance with your care, simply tell them you can not leave the hospital until such arrangements have been secured.

No; it does not sound right for an attorney to want to find witnesses before meeting with you. It does sound right for an attorney to find witnesses and do some type of investigating before agreeing to file a claim.

Best wishes,
EC
