Sorry, have to scoff here.... 20*? 50*? that would be a current heat wave! Brings to mind Grumpy Old Men.... its a balmy 9* without windchill... bringing the temp down to -12* and looking like its going to stay that way.
Rainy and cold at DisneyWorld with a 16 month old? You're kidding right? What possible fun would that be? On top of which, naps interferring with fun time, right? So Grandparents bring kiddo to DisneyWorld.... get up in the morning, eat breakfast... get kiddo and themselves dressed for the day, time for lunch... then nap... and you get what? 2 hours of 'fun' time in? Where would that be a trip worth taking? I wouldn't want to tackle DisneyWorld even with a 3 year old....

I've done it. It is not necessarily an issue at all.

If stepmom is ONLY objecting to this one trip, and isn't otherwise interfering with dad or his parents spending time with the child, I think that she is *probably* safe, and her objections to this particular trip for this particular child sound reasonable *to me*. I know this poster's history, but *in this case* I don't think she's being crazy or stupid or trying to alienate the child from his dad or grandparents.

I could agree with that however that does not mean her judge would not ding her. The other issue is the statement that I highlighted from her post:
I dont want to give visitation until divorce is finalized.

that is what gets her into the biggest issues. If she is interfering with dad spending time with the child and won't allow dad to parent the child then there are going to be issues that will irritate a court regarding this trip. If she is cooperating with dad and coparenting with dad and this is the ONLY snafu in the coparenting then not so much. And it is not as though the grandparents would be out any money. Disney is free for children until they turn 3.

We are expecting snow as far south as Orlando. So, I'm NOT talking chilly. I'm talking freezing weather here. I would cancel any trip to Orlando this weekend.

We are now into day 6 of extreme cold weather. Remember that we are NOT prepared down here for this kind of cold. We either don't have heaters, or the ones we have are NOT the kind to warm up a house in the extreme weather we are having.

There are NO space heaters to be found either.

I am giving you a legally honest and correct answer.

No, it will NOT look bad on you at all because you chose to not allow a 16 month old, who is too young to even enjoy the experience, to go out of state to Disneyworld with grandparents.

Your husband can document all he likes. No judge is going to ding you for not allowing grandparents to take a child that young out of state during the middle of divorce proceedings, even if the other parent wants you to do so.

I am also disappointed that you got legally incorrect answers previously.

Finally some common sense! Thanks LD! This OP has no hope of getting a reasonable answer given her posting history.

Common sense? Really? LD is wrong for the reasons I and others have presented. LD cannot guarantee that a judge will not ding her. I have seen it happen.

BLAH. I have space heaters AND whole house heat. of course my heat has been on since late October. You have my sympathies because at least we northerners can deal with it. YOu southerners can't.

With the heat running, I've been able to get my house to 62 degrees inside. So, yes, I have been freezing my you-know-whats off. I have no electric blankets or space heaters so we are all huddled under blankets.

I call BS. I've given OP reasonable answers in the threads she's posted since she posted that she was getting divorced.

It's not that we can't deal with the current weather conditions (14ºF w/snow in central Alabama right now)... but our houses aren't built for it. My house was built in 1935; there is no central heat/air installed. I use space heaters to heat the house. They work well in our usual winter weather... with this, though, they're struggling.

The whole idea of houses without central heat is flabbergasting to me. I mean air conditioning can be combatted but HEAT? My house may be drafty but I do have heat!

This is the first house I've lived in that didn't have central heat/air. It's been an experience.... :p
