Just have some questions about an acident that occured earlier today in the state of Maine.
A friend was driving along a public road when a farm tractor plowing a nearby field used the road to turn around and collided with her auto and totaled it. I know that a farm tractor is not registered with the state and thus does not need to have collision insurance, but what I'm wondering about is the best way to seek compensation. If his auto insurance doesnt cover it and his Farmer's comprehensive personal liability doesn't cover it, then could his homeowners insurance cover the damages? The extent of damages is only about 700$ for the car and 73$ for the towing so getting a lawyer is wished to be avoided. The police were called and the farmer fully admitted that the accident was 100% his fault.
Today the farmer offered 400$ cash compensation. I'm just looking for some information on if he could have some insurance that would cover this... or at least a few really big words to use to scare him into ponying up the 800 bucks... words like "non-reciprocal risk" or something...
Just basically some input on what should be done in this case... Thank you in advance.
