You can use a vaccume cleaner and vac out as much dust as possible frequently, not perfect but it can help , my dad did that for many years , i just dont know how often he actually changed the filters.

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Arizona

We have lived in our home in Arizona since September of 2011, and are still on our first set of air filters. However, my father is refusing to replace them, believing that I am trying to make him spend money for no reason, which is a blatant lie. He said he will not replace them until September of this year.

Funny, because your father is spending just the same amount(or more depending on how old the A/C unit is) in the loss of cooling efficiency. These filters here in AZ really need to be replaced at least once every two months, depending on the season and especially after an haboob.

People outside the state don't realize how dusty it is here, and how clogged a filter can get after just one month.

"I'd much prefer to legally seize the house from him rather than move. This would teach him a lesson about oppression."

Yeah; that's gonna happen.

The apple doesn't fall very far from the tree on this one. You can't stand to live in a house with dirty air filters during the summer and your dad doesn't want to pop the four or five bucks it takes to replace them.

There's a heck of a lot more going on in this relationship than dirty air filters.

You can no sooner "make" your dad change the air filters than you can "legally seize" the house from him over this matter.

Might be time for one of you to move. Since it's your parents who own the house, that person should be you if you are legal age to do so.

If you really wanted to teach your father a lesson, you would move out and in your new place, take pictures of you replacing the filters every month and mail him copies. That would teach him!! Give it a try.

My mommy used to cook pork too well. Now that I've put on my big boy pants, I find I prefer pork far less cooked. Because of her irrational fear of disease, she ruined my enjoyment of many of the meals she provided me for free.

Even though she's dead now, my dad got all of her stuff. Can I sue him?

(I mean, really, the pork chops were as hard as a table.)
