I signed a retainer agreement with a law firm for $4,000.00 for billable hours while they worked on a case for me. This agreement specifically reads, "Client understands that when the retainer is exhausted the firm cannot continue working on Client's case until such retainer has been replenished." There is not an ambiguous clause --- I purchased $4,000.00 worth of billable hours. Well, I was really shocked a few months into this agreement when the firm began billing me for an additional $2,660.00 in billable hours. I absolutely disagree with this -- I never replensihed the retainer nor did I ever agree to pay for additional services -- nor did I even know that the $4,000.00 had been exhausted. The firm has filed a suit against me --- I think, that is. In any case, they sent me a warrant in debt but I haven't received anything from the court as of yet. I am a bit nervous about this but, to me, the contract was very clear. Any thoughts?
