Imporper Left Turn Ticket
What is the name of your state? NY
Here is the situation. I was getting back from work in the evening. Getting close to my usual exit off of the freeway and noticed that there are many of cars lined up. There are two ways to get off the highway: one being the regular exit, second is to take an earlier exit to a small parking area which then leads into the same road as the main exit. The only difference is that if you take the regular exit you can then end up either in the left lane or the right lane of the one-way road, whereas if you take the parking area exit - you end up on the right late. Well since the main exit seemed to be obstructed with many cars I took the park area exit and then merged into the main exit (into the right late of main exit road to be specific). As I needed to make a left turn I tried to move the left lane - but was unable to do so due to high volume of cars moving in.
Knowing that the left late is "LEFT TURN ONLY" and this is a one-way street (there is no oncoming traffic) I made the left turn from the right lane - carefully watching for the cars left of me. But to my luck there was squad car there waiting for me (as well as many other unfortunate drivers).
I got a ticket for improper left turn. I am trying to fight the ticket and I was hoping maybe some of you have a good idea of how I can appeal to the court judge. What would be the best way to approach this? Any comments would be appreciated.
