Filing before new law?

I filed Ch 7 two weeks ago and just received the notification that our 341 meeting is Aug 5th. It says something about last date of disharge or objection by creditors to file (I think, I dont have it in front of me unfortunately but it was something like that) is Oct 4th. Is that going to cause a problem with the new law? Do I have to worry about it going into the new law period and then we're looking at all new problems? I thought the whole process would take about 90 days from the date of filing but that letter is a little frightening.... I'm already panicked about the 341 meeting and now this

As long as you file before Oct. 17 you are under the current law (not the new law). As for the date you talk about, it is 60 days after your 341 meeting. Basically it works like this, you file, 30 days later you have your 341 meeting. After this meeting, creditors have 60 days (up until Oct 4th) from the day of the creditors meeting to file any objections. That equals about 90 days. Nothing to worry about.

Take a deep breath and relax a little

I am not one of the usual people who give advice on here, but this much I do know: Since the new law was signed in the middle of the month, it won't take effect until the middle of the month. It has to be a full 180 days. That means that your October 4 date should be okay. And I believe that since you filed before the date the new law takes effect (that is, most of it; a couple things were being implemented sooner, I read), they will go by the filing date. Here is why I say that: When I filed my Ch 7 papers, the clerk said that filings had slowed down a bit since they were right after the news of the new law came out but that they expect a swarm of last minute filings before the cutoff date. (I am fairly sure that date is October 17, that is what I seem to recall being posted on this site by someone who would know, like AttorneyOney or ladynred.)
