What is the name of your state? Massachusetts
I need to file contempt charges against the ex since he's stopped paying $ that was agreed upon in the divorce settlement. I'd rather not use an attorney cuz that will eat up anything the judge demands he pay. Where do I begin to get the forms and file in the court? this is a very cut-and-dry situation. thanks

you will need to go to the court your divorce was filed in and fill out the contempt forms there, you will need your docket number etc...there will still befees involved to file, plus sheriffs fees.

Look up your local family court wher the order is on-line, some have general forms available. I recommend that when you file the contempt thet you also request that the support be ordered to the CSE so they can handle any future problems with non-payment.

CSE is child support enforcement Bononos assumed that the money that you are trying to recoup is child support. Is it? or is it spousal support, of some other type of payment ordered in the divorce decree??

legal fees most likely would not eat into the amount because generally you would be pursuing an enforcement action and legal fees would most likely be awarded to you.
