What is the name of your state?Virginia

Hi Lana,

I was hoping you would answer a question for me.
Why would it take a person living in the state of Virginia "5" years to get a GC?
My understanding is this person went to college in Oregon and overstayed.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Not enough information. Was the person on a student visa? What were his grounds for a green card? Employment? Family sponsorship?

It can very well take 5 years to get a green card through the traditional labor certification route of employment-based application, but without knowing more specifics about what exactly was filed, when, where, and how, I cannot comment in greater detail.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions or if I may be of further assistance to you in this matter.

Thank you Lana

Hi Lana,

Thanks for your response.
The GC would be obtained via the traditional labor certification route of employment-based application.
However, this person had their drivers licence suspended due to some traffic infractions.
Since a GC could be months or years away they are unable to lift the suspension on their drivers licence untill a GC is granted.
Would you know of any options other than not driving/marrage to expedite this process?

Thank you for your time and assistance

No, there is no other option of getting the green card other than through employment or through family. If the employment-based application is pending, and there are no other family-based eligibility grounds, then that is it. Remember, there is no right to a driver's license; it is a privilege and if it has been suspended for the infractions and cannot be reinstated until he becomes a green card holder, there is not much you can do about that at this point.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions or if I may be of further assistance to you in this matter.

Any additional advice

Yeah, don't date the guy or meet him in person. You obviously have your suspicions and are waiting for a group of strangers to vet him for you based on zero information.
Good luck.
