Can a mortgage company put a house into a foreclosure without notifying the home owner by certified mail, or any kind of mail?

Possibly

Check on your county recorder's web site for notice of the sale. I am not an attorney but I think that a trustee sale may be held after a recodation of the notice of a trustee sale. Maricopa and Pinal counties have open records on their web sites as well as several other counties. In addition you may find the applicable statutes at: http://www.azleg.state.az.us/ArizonaRevisedStatutes.asp

Having been down the foreclosure road myself No they can not once you are in default the court is notified and paperwork sent to you giving you X amout of time to resolve before a sale date is sent to you. We Sold to avoid this.
