What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? CA

My family owns an apartment complex and a condo unit, with thoughts of expanding in the future. For protection purposes, we are thinking of forming a company and listing the apartment, the condo unit, and any future investments under the company's name rather than our own name. What type of company structure (LLC, partnership, corporation, etc.) would be the best fit for our current situation that will provide the maximum amount of protection for our personal finances?

The question is whether your lenders are going to lend to a corporate entity without personal guarantee.
What do you mean by family? An individual or even a married couple doesn't usually end up with much liability protection just because the cloak themselves in a corporate entity.
Your best bet would be to speak to a lawyer who can examine your personal details.

What will protect your family better than anything else is a substantial liability insurance policy.
