Fraudulant Charges/PLEASE HELP

What is the name of your state?MICHIGAN...

I HAVE A PERFECT CREDIT, AND I ALWAYS MAKE MY PAYMENTS ON TIME. EVERYTHING WAS GOING FINE UNTIL I RECIVED A CALL FROM A COLLECTION AGENCY SAYING THAT I OWE MORE THAN $5,000 ON ONE OF MY CREDIT CARD, AND I NEED TO PAY IT RIGHT NOW. SUFFICE TO SAY, I WAS SHOCKED BECAUSE I THOUGHT I DON'T OWE ANY THING ON THAT CREDIT CARD AND THAT'S WHY THEY HAVEN'T BEEN SENDING A MONTHLY STATEMENT. I CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE AND DISCOVERED THAT THEY HAVE A DIFFERENT ADDRESS , I LIVE IN MICHIGAN AND THE OTHER ONE IN SALEM OREGON. SOMEONE CALLED THE CREDIT CARD COMPANY AND CHANGED MY ADDRESS , AND START USING MY CREDIT CARD TO BUY STUFF FROM HOME SHOPPING NETWORK AND ELSE. I TRIED TALKING TO PEOPLE WORKING THERE AND THEY TOLD ME THAT I HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE COLLECTION AGENCY, AND YOU KNOW HOW THEY TREAT YOU, LIKE GARBAGE. NOT ONLY THAT THEY HARRASS YOU EVENTHOUGH YOU HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT.
PLEASE HELP. WHAT SHOULD I DO? WHERE CAN I GO TO GET SOME HELP? AND WHO COULD HELP ME? I 'M READY TO PAY WHAT I OWE, AND THAT'S WHAT I TOLD THEM, BUT NOT FOR CHARGES I DID NOT MAKE. AND HOW CAN I PREVENT THIS INCIDENT FROM RUINING MY CREDIT RATING.

PLEASE HELP

THANK YOU

You may want to start by officially disputing the charges with the cc co IN WRITING!!!!! Be sure to explain and send proof that the address they've been sending the bill to is not your address and that you are a vicitm of fraud. They will try and say that youdidn't dispute the charges within 60 days of the billing statement...but that is hard to do when you never received a bill.

This is just my personal opinion and what I would do.

You should also file a police report. After all, your identity has been stolen.

Don't expect the police to do very much but a police report will help you with the credit card company.
