What is the name of your state?GA

I recently had a post about mold in my apartment. The health dept nor any other such depts were not able to help me. However the landlord finally agreed it was their fault and agreed to pay for my dry cleaning and other damaged clothing. I did not bother to claim on anything else - just decided to let them go...but now when I am to receive the check - they want me to sign a waiver saying I will not disclose or discuss the issue after this, nor will I pursue legal actions against them. They have also added $100 to the amount I gave them - I guess that is hush money - not sure - but I am not even on the lease - mu husband name is the only one - but they want both of us to sign it - because they say I was very "vocal about the issue" - whatever that means. But I know I am not to sign - and will probably need a lawyer - which I cannot afford - so any thoughts or ideas ANYONE???

It depends on how you feel...

It most definitely is "hush money"...

Go to your doctor and discuss the mold issue with him/her... They will give you a good idea of what to expect health wise... If they state that you were exposed to an abnormally large amount of mold and the issue of medical problems will arise in the future, then do not sign the paper...

Mold issue update

Thanks for your response. Actually I have 2 small kids and did have them checked out - ran some tests - and they are fine - at least for now. I am not sure if its likely that in the future - they might show signs of anything - but for now - the tests say they are fine. Health wise the family seem okay. I was not thinking a lawsuit or anything along that line - but since they did this- I am wondering if I am making a mistake. I recently asked why teh waiver letter - and I was told - it was request of their insurance company and they have no control over it. How can an insurance company tell someone to sign such a document?

Can I legally withhold rent to cover the amount owed?

Insurance companies do it all the time... It literally GUARANTEES that they will NOT be paying anything out in the future... YOu lose ALL abilities to get compensated for damages they caused...
