This section of the forum has attracted a lot of spammers trying to promote gambling websites. Gambling debts can overwhelm gamblers to the point where they consider filing for bankruptcy.

Following are two links to FreeAdvice staff written and reviewed articles on gambling debts and whether they can be discharged in bankruptcy. The answer is “it depends.”

Beware of any random links to gambling websites. Be sure to check the gambling laws in your state before any online betting. And seek professional help if you are suffering from a gambling addiction.

Beware too that most online betting sites are located outside of the United States where there is little regulation. That means a lot of sites are rigged to scam you out of your money rather than using real casino odds. It also means that collecting from these crooks is nearly impossible to do. Banks and credit card firms generally are not permitted to finance gambling for customers and if the bank/cc firm finds out you've been using your card to gamble your line of credit may be cut off and it's likely that the bank will be unable to do a chargeback for you. Finally you may end up violating federal and/or state laws by using those offshore sites. Though casual gamblers are not often prosecuted people need to be aware the possibility is there.
