undefinedState of Georgia:What is the name of your state?

If a person gives a general power of attorney to someone, and later that person that gave the power attorney is no longer able to tend to their financial affairs, can the person with the power attorney then handle their financial matters?
If power of attorney notifies credit card holders, that Ms. X, cannot pay her credit card debt, can the credit card holder then harrass the power of attorney.

Person with Power of attorney is simply the caregiver, and Ms. X is not competent enough to handle her financial affairs.
Only authorized user on the credit cards was Ms. X., now the person with the power of attorney is forced to answer to many calls and letters.

Would the person with the power of attorney be liable in any way for the credit card debt by Ms. X, after sending a copy of the power of attorney to the creditors?

In another words, will be the person with the power of attorney be protected in any way against the harrassment by credit card companies?

No. That is one of the joys of being placed in the middle of someone elses business.

Power of attorney question

( Georgia)reply by JETZ: Are you saying the credit card companies can harrass the person holding the power of attorney???
It was our understanding they can only "go" for the authorized user of the card. We will only be the "messenger" In another words, they can "shoot the messenger."????
The person with the power of attorney should not have to put up with harrassing phone calls and letters for someelse's debt.
We are only notifying them of her disabled and health status and her inability to pay!!

They have a name and number for a person who can dispense monies for Ms X, so of course they are going to harrass to see if they can get any money out of the holder of the POA.

However, that person is NOT LIABLE for Ms X's debts themselves, so you could safely tell them to take a flying leap at a rolling donut and hang up.

Yep. Ladynred is correct.

HUH??? My answer was to your question: "will be the person with the power of attorney be protected in any way against the harrassment by credit card companies?"
And the answer is no. By your putting yourself in the middle of the account holders 'business', you are not liable for the debt, but you make yourself answerable to the calls by the creditors. You can't have it both ways.... "I will have the authority to talk to you about why the debtor can't pay... but you can't ask me anything or contact me!".
