What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NJ
Hello.
I wrote a few weeks ago and wanted to know about stopping child support. All three children are over 22, but one has Downs Syndrome. Even though he gets Social Security, we're guessing we will still have to pay something for him.
When I wrote in before I was advised to to see a lawyer, and we did, but she said we could "kiss" the money we over paid goodbye. That over payment is almost $40,000. I think we should get at least half back, since half of that money if mine. I mean if we owed that much in back support the court would come after us for it.
Please let me know if it is my Congressman or Senator I need to try to meet with to see about a new law. There is no reason why, in this computer age, that a flag could be sent out from somewhere when a child reaches the age of 18..The case could be reviewed then to see if they will be going on to college , if so.. add that to the file, if not adjust the payments to fit the situation.
Then maybe someone else won't pay support for a "child" that is now 32.
Thank you for your time and any info. What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
