I just read a post about getting copies of sealed records and wondered about something-
My husbands ex had son taken away about 9 or 10 yrs ago for abuse-evidently, marks were found on son at the preschool he was attending and they had to report it.
Anyway, I know son was living at Grandmother's (Ex's mother) for about 2 months (my husband was not able to take him at that time), so I know it was a serious offence.
Can we get a copy of this report/investigation and where do we go?
The reason I am asking this is that son sees a counselor at his school and this person wrote a letter on behalf of son for our court date in June-we did win and the letter really only effected us a little BUT-this person stated that my husband may use physical punishment on the son, so contact should be limited-
My husband has NEVER used physical punishment on son-only ex has!
Even though this was years ago-I would like the counselor to know what she is capable of (and there have been other things reported by children in regards to abuse-but we have no proof)
thanks

Lovingwife-It does'nt sound like you really need this info for counseling. I say once a record is sealed let it be. The only way that it would get unsealed is if the abuse is a on going thing. This did happened to a family friend of mine. And they were told by the courts that they reguested the case to be sealed. But once again a tragic ordeal happened to the family and the sealed records became opened again. Which it did'nt help their case at all.
Good-Luck:confused:

not sure if it's sealed

I'm not sure if this is a sealed record or not-so, how would I find out? I do think it is important for everyone who in counseling stepson to know what mother is capable of. And that the emotional problems he has now is NOT because of my husband-as the ex tries to point the finger at him. Not only has this child been abused, but he has been exposed to the mother being abused, drug abuse, and one of the many guys in her life hit this kid. We did write a letter to the counselor to let her in on these things-I am sure ex never mentioned any of this and son probably didn't either.
thanks for the reply

Lovingwife- Maybe you could try the Department of Human Services in your State or County. If their even was a case it would go through this Department. Apparently we might have been through the same ordeal. I moved in with a man. And he had a teenage son that was sexually molested by his ex-girlfriends brother. I was devistated to hear that this could happen to a child in his own home without a parent to protect him. I was the one that had to call my boyfriends ex-wife to let her know that this happened to her child. And she responded quickly to get her son some counsling. Her son did tell his father the night before, and I guess he just wanted to blow it off. And 3yrs later I found out why. The father was sexually abuse (my ex-boyfreind) by his own brother. Now I know why he has a drug problem. IT'S TO FORGET!
