% good results WITHOUT an attorney? - VA

Ticket is from VIRGINIA.

"Reckless driving by speed" 82/65 ticket on I-77, WYTHE County.

I was travelling at 70 in the slow lane and have a witness (my passenger). Setting all that aside, since I realize it won't matter.... I have confirmed the demerit points and ticket will NOT affect my driver's abstract and insurance here in Ontario Canada.

Could anyone please advise how results have been with just a letter to the judge, certified copy of my clean driver's abstract, withOUT an attorney or attendance in person?

The court states that I could send my written response to the judge and, if it does not lower the ticket, I have 10 days to appeal it. At the appeal level, an attorney would need to be present.

Also, got a ticket....not speeding!

I also got a ticket in Virginia supposedly going 80 in a 65. Not so. I at no time was going 80 miles an hour and I know this to be fact because once my SUV goes beyond 70 mph it starts to shake considerably but I told the officer I didn't think I could be going that fast and he gave me a ticket anyway. I think there officers either need retrained or they need to Calibrate their Radars more often!!

thanks - I found out that "no lo" means "no contest" by a google search. Seems pretty unfair to plead no contest when you KNOW the ticket is so wrong. Oh well. Not many options with cops / radars/ & courts.

Now, back to my original question. Anyone have any experience how court results went withOUT an attorney or yourself present? Especially for "reckless driving" not just speeding.

I do not have the option to "just pay the fine". There is no set fine. It is set by the courts.

However, I am also Canadian and this will NOT affect my driving record or insurance in any way. Most folks just advise me to "never go back to Virginia" and spread the word for Virginia tourism.

Nolo= Nolo Contendere. I found this on the back of the Uniform Summons ticket that I got. From what Ive heard the Judge will usually reduce the fine to just speeding because by pleading nolo your not dragging it out to be a crazy ordeal.

What can I expect if I plead "no lo" by LETTER & copy of driver's record only?

i.e. no attorney & not in person?
