Oregon.
Hit an outdoor, overhanging roof at an apartment building today and bent a couple square feet up pretty well. The truck didn't take more than some scratches. I haven't claimed it or talked to anybody about it because I have no idea what best to do or what to expect! My contract insures everything but collisions with overhead objects, of course. What are my possible plans of action? What could I expect from this point on? Thanks!

Did you notify the apartment management?

Did you notify the rental company?

Or are you just hiding everything from everybody in the hopes that nobody saw you and that the rental company won't notice the scratches?

As for what you COULD expect: You could expect to be charged with hit and run, you can expect that the rental company will charge you for the damage.

Whether any of that actually happens is impossible to predict.

What, exactly, do you want from us? A pat on the head and being told don't worry, everything will be fine?

No need to be so rude. I'm meerly seeking information about an issue I've never met before. I won't be returning to this website.

Well, the professional advice is to notify the apartment manager and notify the rental company.

If you expected anything different then it wasn't "professional" advice you were looking for.

You were involved in a motor vehicle accident and did not report it. That could bring some problems.

You have no insurance for the damage you caused - either to the truck or the roof, therefore you would be responsible for fixing the damage you caused.

Did anyone see the accident (that you know of)?

If it was just scratches on a U-haul truck and they didn't notice it when you checked it in, it's likely to not be a problem. Those trucks pick up scuffs in normal wear and tear.

Your damage to the building is a bit more problematic.
