Yes I am from Elkhart, Indiana... The R.V. capital of the world. and yes Obama visited here 3 times while he was campaigning.

been there a few times myself.

without reading through the entire thread, was there ever any resolution here? I have forgotten and too laze to read through it again but I have come up with a possibility, maybe if nothing else has been tossed out there.

If op is from where I think he is from, there were no jobs to be
He had at any pay rate. It was an extreme situation

OP stated: "...I did whatever I could, deliver pizzas, take part time jobs at retail clothing stores..." Had the OP been drawing partial UI benefits, his situation may have been eased.

Darn Republicans. Always cutting off their noses to spite their faces

Sorry Zigner, I don't vote Democrat, I don't take handouts, and I don't expect anyone else to take care of me

Again, I'm sorry that you hold the erroneous belief that it is a handout. It, quite simply, is not. I won't go any further with this as it is largely irrelevant since you can't turn back time.

You don't have to be sorry, I am just fine. I can tell you this though, everyone that I know that took the (non handout) unemployment benefits has ended up worse off than I am. They either still can't find a job that pays enough to live off of, or they wound up on antidepressants because when you take the (non handout) unemployment benefits and sit on your butt, you start to lose your sense of self worth.

I would rather struggle to earn a living and keep my self worth, than take (a perfectly fine, non handout, non welfare) unemployment check, and find myself where they are.

Hardly. More like unwilling to be a further burden on other folks. Rather be a producer than a looter/moocher.

There is nothing mooching about receiving unemployment benefits when you're laid off through no fault of your own. Esp if it means the difference between being able to pay or not pay ones bills, keep a roof over ones head, and food on ones table.

well, my statement was a bit of hyperbole but it was, and actually still is, rough.

I think the point Zig is trying to make is that there is a hard way of doing things and a REALLY hard way of doing things. There is also a difference between using partial UI to supplement ones income while other jobs are worked (esp if they're subpar) and the people you talk about who sat on their bums collecting weekly checks while eating bonbons and underwater basket weaving. There really is no shame in doing things the hard way which is working hard to better yourself in an awful situation while still receiving a small check from the employer who put you in the position in the first place.

And OP decided not to do such.

No I have not heard the first bit of helpful or useful information. Anything that you could suggest (with the exception of begging for money on a street corner ;-) would be greatly appreciated!

I will step out of this thread now as I don't have any advice for your situation. Please understand that my intention was not to "bash" you for your choices. Rather, I wanted to make sure that others who may come upon this thread in the future have a clearer understanding of UI.

I wish you the best of luck and hope that Justalayman has helpful advice for you.

in order to receive partial unemployment benefits I would have had to work less than 20 hours per week at the part time jobs that I took. the least that I have worked since I lost my R.V. job is 32 hours a week. I guess that I feel like if you are capable of working even 2 or 3 part time jobs instead of taking UI... YOU SHOULD, AND I DID!

I don't look down my nose at those who are trying and have to take partial UI, in some circumstances it is the right thing to do. but I find it ridiculous that anyone would act like I am some kind of Idiot for working hard and not relying on UI.

That is the type of moral decay that caused this country to slide down the crapper in the first place!

You have to be joking. Unemployment insurance being accepted is not being a burden or a looter/moocher. This OP was stupid and cutting off his nose to spite his face. So much so that his self sufficient butt couldn't pay his loans. Nice deadbeat. That is allowed in the world of Tea?

And yet you want out of your house loan because you shouldn't have to pay it. Doesn't seem any better though I am sure you have a reason why the democrats are to blame that you shouldn't pay your debts.
