"There are too many drugs that are ABSOLUTELY too dangerous; even under "controlled" situations such as clinics."
In this instance you show some concern for addicts
I certainly wouldn't loose any sleep if all the addicts were somewhere away from the rest of us doing their drugs.
The actually concern I show is for the general public. My concern would be for what could happen if either:
a. the drugs got out to the street
b. the user got high in the clinic and made it out to the street, wreaking havoc

Some domestic problems are associated with drugs but the real danger is addicts that need money for more drugs. Can you imagine how dangerous the streets would be if beer was $50.00 a six pack? It wouldn't be safe to leave your front door.
We agree, but the issue is.... so you make drugs cheaper? What? How do you approach that? I haven't a clue....

"I do not see a problem with prisons, other than there are not enough of them!"
Here you show disgust
In Texas that is what they have been doing and now are realizing that these prisons are breeding grounds for more criminal activity. Some people choose prison over probation because they actually like it there.
Very true, there are definitely "career criminals" and people who use the system: free food and lodging at our expense. However, I believe my disgust is well founded. I may be advocating building more prisons which in turn might be enabling more criminals, but I think we should rethink WHERE the prisons are, and HOW we reintroduce those who are paroled back into society. An idea might be an island of some sort, and once paroled you have to live on the island for say one year before coming to the "mainland" to live in a very focused and intense halfway house, etc.... I do not know the correct way to approach that one at all.

"I definitely advocate a different approach to the "war on drugs", however, I do not think a complete legalization of all drugs is a wise choice."
It doesn't have to be a choice between drug legalization and more prisons. Why can’t an addict just go to a doctor for help? The doctor can make a determination if the individual is indeed an addict and then direct him or her to a clinic.
Sure, but then after being directed to a clinic, read my first response as just a starter for my other concerns....

If all the addicts were getting their drugs for little to nothing at the drug clinics demand on the streets would decrease to almost nothing. Most criminals would consider getting out of the business since they would have to practically give the drugs away to make a sale.it would no longer be worth the risk.As demand decreases the prices will folow.

It's kind of like oil. When the price drops below $30.00 a barrel. Many drilling companies choose to get out of the business or at least wait for a higher price.

The concern is not the demand, but the ramifications of having such cheap drugs. If drugs were cheap and easy to get, I believe many more people would try them. Thus this would exaccerbate the problem and put more impaired people on the street. Two things I don't think would be healthy at all...

Few people would sell drugs if demand was almost nonexsistent.Like I said before it's the hardcore addicts that drive the market.Drugs would be cheap but extremly hard to find.
