What is the name of your state? WAshington

My ex-husband and I have been divorced for over 10 years. A few years ago I took our daughters for dental work. They are covered by my ex's insurance. The balance due after insurance is MY debt. I paid on it for awhile but it wasn't enough to satisfy them at the Dental office and I couldn't pay more as I am an unemployed stay-at-home Mom (6 yo son) A collection agency has now contacted my ex-husband and is telling him that HE has to pay what is owed to the dentist. He didn't take the girls in for the work, we aren't/weren't married at the time - I don't see how they can claim my ex has to pay them. Can someone help? Point me in the right direction to find the applicable laws regarding this?
THANK-YOU!

I am by no means an expert....just a fellow student:) I believe the reason the dentist is holding your ex responsible is because your children were covered by his insurance. Whether there was a court order or not stating that you would pay whatever your ex's insurance didn't cover makes no difference in this case.
