What is the name of your state? NY

I have had this particular domain name for many years--always being current on my registration, never even letting it come close to lapsing.

Well, a few days ago I was telling a friend of mine that I owned this particular domain name, so he decided he would type it in to his browser and check it out. I said, "Nothing is going to come up" as i knew it wasn't currently pointed to any server and he said, "Oh yeah? Check this out!" & showed me a bunch of PORN!

I immediately went to my registrar, and verified that I was PAID IN FULL through DECEMBER 2004. I even went back to look up receipts to verify that I had paid at least 6 months before the domain was due to expire.

At first I thought someone had tricked me in to transferring it over to them somehow (with all the internet fraud and phishing going on).

Then I checked out the WHOIS Record on the domain and it said that it was CREATED in FEB-04 and registered to a company in the Cayman Islands. (I had originally registered it 1999). So now I'm quite sure that my Registrar really screwed up & lost my name accidentally EVEN THOUGH I PAID THEM.

I opened a trouble ticket with them over 4 days ago, and I’ve yet to hear anything, although when I checked the status of my ticket it says it had been escalated to the highest possible level??

Looks like it's may be time to look for a lawyer... Has anyone ever heard of anything like this ever happening before??

Thanks for any input!

People have stolen domain names in the past. It may have happened to you.

Is that the BEST response you have?? If so (and I have seen your other ones.... just as useless), why are you posting here??? You are offering NOTHING to these writers.

*** Presumably, they are working on the problem. If you feel that they might not be responsive, your best (and first) option is to try contacting them DIRECTLY (not by email) and see what they are doing to resolve the problem.
Legal action (if practical) would only be applicable after the normal processes of resolution are exhausted.

I have heard of it happening before. I answered what he asked.

Lock your domain

Hi Witecats,

I work for a domain name registrar, and we receive complaints about this sort of thing everyday.

What may have happened, and is the case in most of the complaints I review, is that your domain name was simply transfered to another registrar. Unless you block transfers, they are very easy to accomplish.

My registrar allows domains to be locked. This prevents any changes to the domain without the owner(s) authorization. If you get your name back, or you register another, it may serve you well to use a registrar that provides a locking type service.
