With Southwest you pay NO fee and my step son has been flying since the age of 5, with southwest it has to be either a non stop flight or a flight with stops but no plane changes.

Each airline has its own policies and its wise to check into them prior to booking flights. The fees can be as small as 40 each way up to 75 each way for an unaccompanied minor to fly in the states and most airlines take unaccompanied starting at 5. At 12 some will drop the fee but most at the age of 14 drop the fee.

I am very airline and unaccompanied fee savy due to the fact that we have 2 kids flying back and forth over summer/spring/christmas vacations with us beign Military.

LOL Try two kids, once a month and summer/spring/christmas vacations. ;) My worst experience was when my ex decided to put my maiden name down instead of the married name I still use. Took me having my Dad drive down to the airport (1 1/2 hours) to show ID with the right last name. That and my ID with the right first name and address got them to release the kids to me. What a fiasco.

I can imagine!! We had to have papers drawn up for my husbands ex wife to put me on the papers to pick up my step son this next year while he is in Korea just for that reason. We were worried out of spite she might put his name on the paperwork instead of mine just because she can. But the order is signed by all now and in a safe spot and I really am hoping that we wont have to use it but I still plan to take it and the Powers of Attoney's I have all with me each and every time we head to the airport. Better safe than sorry.

I couldnt imagine every other weekend flights too!! OUCH!!

Why is ness. for us to pay for one? Isn't that what we paid a family spec. lawyer almost $2800. for? Why can't our atty. fight? WE already have joint custody with us being the domile parent.
