Call legal aid, they might make a priority out of this because of the abuse. You should also call the police every time there is physical abuse. You might have to leave your things behind, if you're smart your things will not matter as much as your safety and the safety of your children.

Don't worry about your possessions, worry about you and your children! You need to protect them, that is your job. Call the police, don't allow him to get away with hitting you - my god, if you are not even together and he continues to abuse you he needs to be in jail, and I certainly would not trust him with my children. Does he abuse the kids too? Are they safe with him? You need to get a restraining order ASAP and enforce it! If he calls you call the police! If he comes to your home - call the police! If he does anyting against that order of protection for God's sake call the police. Belive me, I have been there, and you need everything documented. Good luck & protect your kids!
