What is the name of your state? SD

I just left a company a few weeks ago and they are holding my commisions for 6 months before paying me. They say it's because if one of my customers backs out of their contracts, they want to make sure and deduct that commision from my check. This can't be legal, can it? Just wondering.

That depends on several things, including whether your State considers comissions "wages." Give SD's Department of Labor a call and see what they say.
