What is the name of your state? North Carolina The Homeowners Assoc has threatened to put a lien on my home for not paying my association dues. My question is: do they have the authority to do this? I was not late in paying, but the letter they sent stated that "since I am the only one in the association that has not paid, your dues are considered late". The letter then went on to state a lien will be made against my home.

**A: read your CC&R's and you will find out that the HOA has the power.

Not only that, but they may also have the power to force foreclosure proceedings to collect on said liens.

HOAs are very powerful, and are so for a reason. It sounds like you did not read your CC&R's, Declaration, or ByLaws prior to purchase. Now would be a good time to do so.
