how do I find court records

What is the name of your state? Michigan

How do I find court records of a bankruptcy if I don't know where it was filed?? I have the name and social security #. Somewhere besides Pacer. There must be a way if I am willing to spend the time. I have it narrowed down to two states, Michigan and Virginia

being lazy about finding records

hey spoiler, you really think it is so lazy not to want to look up ALL the records of the entire state of Virginia, as well as about 3 counties in Michigan?
I don't know why you are so sarcastic. This forum is about getting help. If you gave more help I wouldn't mind the attitude, but you are of little help, so far. I am sorry that things are not going well for you now.

Is there anyone else who maybe can be a little more help out there?

answer: Yes I do. If you do not want to use pacer or a pay service...then you are going to have to call the courts or your ex and find out. You do not seem willing to do that even though in your first post you state

You don't seem willing to spend the time. You want a quick way to get the records and you want us to give you an easy answer...I am sorry if my unhelpfullness came off as being rude or sarcastic. Maybe the question we should be asking is...if you have a social security # then why not use Pacer? or the pay service? You don't want people knowing who you are??? If you would like I can use my pacer account and look it up for you.

Why are you beating up on Spoiler? Is there a reason you do not want to get A PACER account. Sign up is free, then it's $0.08/page for anything you download. PACER only bills after you reach $10 (or it used to). You can download/print lots of pages for $10. In fact, many casual users (non-lawyers) never reach $10 and are never billed.

If you do get the correct courthouse you can expect to pay substantially more than $0.08 page to have their staff make you copies.

P.S. If you're worried about the person finding out that you have their records, then don't, a PACER is totally anonymous. I downloaded my ex's entire bk file including all the extraneous court documents, and he never knew it.

Besides, its not like you're searching dozens of courthouse records, there are only a few Federal Bankrupty Districts to search. You can search on Pacer by NAME, so you should be able to narrow it down fairly easily.
