How old before my son can choose?

What is the name of your state? I live in West Virginia and my 11 year old son's father lives in Virginia.
The legal age for my son to talk to the judge about where he wants to live in WV is 14, i am trying to find out what the legal age is in Virginia. Also, my custody order is in WV and my child support order is in VA. Which one of the state laws would i use as a guide to determine the age?

It appears that WV has jurisdiciton.

Besides, a child can tell a judge where he wants to live, but the child still doesn't choose. It will remain up to a judge until the child turns 18.

I have been trying to explain to a number of people that bring up the age of decision question..that the child does not have the final decision. The judge will take into consideration the reasons for the childs decision.

Can you imagine a child telling the judge he wants to go live with the other parent because he/she gets to do what they want ..when they want..no curfew etc ...
