What is the name of your state U.S. Virgin Islands.
I'm an 11 year tenant, senior citizen who has been asking our new property manager(the owner recently died) to please fix my roof since April. Some superficial repairs have been made to the other buildings' roofs but none to mine. (Which is in worse condition but does not leak) Now Frances is on the way and though our island is not as close to the center of circulation I am frightened. The manager keeps telling me tthey'll get to it but he doesn't. I realise that they may have other plans for this property and would like to see me move. I have applied for senior housing but but it will take perhaps years to be admitted. I am on a month to month lease. I want to stay here as long as possible since a move would be inconvenient and financially impossible. I pay my rent early each month and am not demanding. I want to stay and I want the roof fixed. Does a little ole lady like me have any legal recourse?

As of 5:00 p.m. EST, Frances is projected to pass very close to the U.S. Virgin Islands with hurricane force winds expected for your area. You don't have much time to secure your own personal safety which really should be you're priorty as it is very unlikely there's time to do something about repairing the roof now. You're more important than the roof at this time.

Hi and thanks for you concern. Seems like we ducked this one as it's 10:15 and just a nice breeze and not even any showers for the cisterns! Spoke to my LL yesterday and he promised to fix the roof next week. We'll see. Seems as though being a good tenant doesn't even entitle one to a roof over one's head. By the dearth of replies to my post I am forced to believe just that.

The reply that you seek safety during the hurricane seemed prudent advice, would you have expected roof repair to be done during a hurricane? You are licky, now the repairs will be made and good advice to have you document with a CRRR don't forget to make a copy for yourself.

Thanks so much for the advice. If the repairs do not begin next week as expected I will send the letter. I don't know what RRR means. Must the certified letter be in a certain form? Sure glad I found this forum. Makes me feel a little bit more empowered. :)

**A: yes, the form must be of a flat parchment type surface with pink roses around the sides such that there is space to write in the middle with an ink writing implement. The parchment need not be scented and it is an option.

As we say down here Tanx!!!!!!
I will wait to see if repairs begin . Don't want to begin an adversarial relationship unless I am forced . It's nice to know that there is help out there and I will fight like a tiger if I have to. :)

By the way, I have tried in vain to find away to find the Virgin Islands Code on line without having a subscription. I don't understand enough to use the one that lawyers use. Is there a way to find rules that apply to the VI online?

Well, She loaded up her car last night and left early this morning to escape Francis as it is heading straight for her, hopefully we will hear from her soon. In these hurricanes wind is one of the ravages but the tidal surges often do more damage. We have a number of members in Florida, hopefully they will all come through this safely. So if you are in Fordia check in and keep us updated!
