What is the name of your state? Ohio

Husband and I applied for Health Insurance. They required husband to have a physical by someone they sent to our house. The underwritters told us something showed up in his test but would not tell us what or send anything in the mail. Husband went to his own Dr. and had a complete physical with blood work for everything. His Dr. said, he had nothing wrong with him.

Also they kept 40.00 of our money. For what? Can't even send us the parmedical report or why he was turned down.
Is there anything we can do about this? He was turned down for no reason at all. Do they have to give us back all of our money? We paid for one month of insurance in advance.

Thanks,

Was there anything in the application that stated there was a $40 application fee?
If so, you're outta luck. If not, call them and ask them why they refunded you all but $40 and see what they say.

And tell them, you need, in writing, the reason why you were declined the coverage so that your husband's physician can review their report and know exactly what to look for (and hopefully NOT find)...then you may have recourse with this carrier for a reconsideration for coverage approval.

Good luck

With the exception of employer-sponsored group insurance, for which at least in my state you cannot be denied, an insurance carrier has no legal obligation to sell anyone a policy if they don't choose to. Insurance companies don't turn down business for no reason; they had a reason, even if you do not know what it is/do not agree with it.

Ablessin has given you good advice; just be aware that to the best of my knowledge (and I could be mistaken about this; there've been some changes to the law since I worked for a national carrier) they are not obligated to give you the reason for the denial. You can confirm (or learn I am mistaken) by calling your state department of insurance.

Most carriers will tell you, albeit sometimes cryptically, why they denied coverage. Your health history is PHI but their findings through the paramed company can be disclosed to you if you signed a release.

As for the non-refundable $40, look in your paper work (particularly the application) and see what it says about the application fee.

I do know an agent in OH who might be able to help if you are unable to make any progress.

Husband denied health insurance for no reason

Thank you all very much for your replies. I will look into the application and see what it says about fee's.

We do have coverage now, so it's not like we needed this company anyway.
Just that they had a little better plan and a little less expensive.

Makes us mad that husband was declined for no reason. I requested last week to send a report and still have not received it.

As I said, insurance carriers do not turn down business for no reason. The fact that they did not tell you what their reason is, does not mean that they don't have one.
