What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? Georgia

I'm an adopted 16 year old, 2 months from 17 and i need to kno if i can legally leave my mothers home if i can provide necessary housing for myself and have family willing to let me live with them. My mother and i argue nonstop and i'm constantly enduring verbal and emotiomal abuse and physical threats for no reason on a day-2-day basis. Please tell me what I can do. Thanks in advance.

You can call CPS or you can stay til 18. If you leave, you can be reported as a runaway. The police might not be able to hogtie and drag you back home, but being under 18 you will be limited in what you can do ... no rental agreements, no special events at school (no parent to sign the necessary releases), no money - maybe no home, etc.

And, running away MIGHT turn in to a criminal offense in GA ... though I'm not certain.

If you are being made the victim of a crime, then call the police or CPS. Calling you names or yelling at you for being rude, crude or not doing your chores is not a crime.

hi i plan on doing that too

yes you are able to leave... as long as you are 17 and 10 days after you birthday. i talked to my counsler as long as you fill out the papers and it will only take 3-4 weeks. as long as you have a job and can support your self......

Sweetie - you know that a counselor isn't a lawyer, right? And may not know the legalities involved. Emancipation can take a hell of a lot longer than 3-4 weeks.

Not to mention the fact that the rules and requirement vary from state to state. Even if your counselor is 100% correct (which I doubt) that is true only in your state and not everywhere.
